I love it Rob! You got your redneck merit badge!
I happened to be at the "U" there for an asphalt paving seminar. I had driven up from Chicago and met up with my old crew from Mpls. Zoomin shroomin. It was a fine show that just swept us along, finally dumping us outside in a snowstorm. People were juggling snowballs and beaning cars driving by. Couldn't find my friends which was a shame because I had a nice guest room on campus.

As always, thanks to all the loving hands that brought this here.

Subject: Scarlet>Fire - WOW!!!!
Apologies for not commenting on the show as a whole, but I have to review this because it was a truly remarkable listening experience that only a select few Dead performances have provided me.

I've been on a pretty big Scarlet>Fire kick, and while I've have heard a ton of awesome new-to-me versions, this particular segue is just unbelievable. It's a masterpiece of jazzy and melodious "noodling" that takes you on a journey through musical heaven like only Jerome John Garcia can provide. Oh yah, and the Fire has some hot jamming too. This beats 11/30/80, 5/11/81, and 8/8/82 for my new favorite S>F of the Brent era.

And...if you aren't bothered too much by my hyperbole, hopefully you will do yourself the favor of checking this out as well :)

This was quite a memorable one for me. First time away from home at a college on Lake Superior. We road a chartered bus down to Madtown. I used the money my folks sent me to pay a fine for snagging salmon. I was packed into the stage three layers out for the first set and up in the seats for the second. I was completely electrified and so was this show. As faced as I was I remeber it like it was yesterday. The boys were rockin'! I remember when we got out it was snowing and as the light caught the flakes they were like little bits of mother-of-pearl. There was a big globe outside with snow at the north pole and we made an ice age happen by throwing snow balls up at it. AAAhh they're wrecking the world the more gone folks hollered. It's hard to decide if the music or the whole experience was better so I don't.

The band is really is that rare, playful and fully connected formation and nothing is impossible. A previous comment did mention a slow start, but it's more like the slow start of a well greased train that is just barely getting started. The crowd appears to be quite tuned-in as well, which makes for a great listening experience as you slowly transform from listener to participant.

What I'm really trying to say here is ... it's a f**cking great show.

Subject: nice show
Dane Co. Colseum was a cozy atmosphere-a smaller stadium- and the sound was quite good on the floor, which was always G.A. First set surprise was the non-acoustic Deep Elem. If I remember correctly, this was the show where Billy got pissed off and left the stage during Drums, leaving Mickey to his own devices (or was it the '83 show?). I do remember driving back to Milwaukee during a blinding snowstorm after the show trying to see between the snowflakes.

I just got done listening to this and found it to be a high quality AUD of a really high energy show. The band seems real together and the mix is nice and even. There is a cut at the end of a smokin' Around and Around but other than that his is one AUD that is worth Downloading!!!

If You're to download the 03 Dec, grab this one !

The OTHER version of the show has a EXTREMELY THIN sound.

This has a lot bass, but anyway much better then the other alternative.

If any YOU saw The Dead around this period,
please Do give further info regarding their live sound. I'll give 4+ out of 5.
Regards Knut
